I fell in love with the Shrins on my first trip there in Dec 2005. It was such an amazing feeling standing on one of the open areas and looking to my left and seeing Pikes Peak, looking down and seeing Colorado Springs adn the plains to my right. I wanted to cry it was so beautiful. I have dear friends out there who thought I would love it there and they were right. I am in love with Colorado! I have been there 3 times total and I just can't get enough. I planned to move out there in Sept of 2006 but plans fell through, trying again after winter.
The Shrine is the most paceful place I have ever been, you can hear your heartbeat - and not just because of the altitude. I had no issues with it there, on a later trip to Breckenridge it was an issue but I got through it.
In Dec 2005 imy friends and I were the ONLY ones at the Shrine. It was sucha moving experience. To quote Tony Bennet "I left my heart in..." the Shrine!
I stood at the landing just below the very top as it was closed that day. But WOW!
thanks for the pic. I have some nice ones that I will post ASAP.
